Marine in the Community would like to offer their congratulations to the first team for their fantastic success at the end of last season beating Macclesfield in the final of the playoffs and securing a historic place in the National League North. I am sure it will be a season to savour, and we wish the team and club every success.
Since the end of the season, we have continued to be at the forefront of many projects and initiatives supporting the local community. Our work in local primary schools providing free education and literacy programmes have been a great success. We have also been working with Litherland High School and Sacred Heart, delivering a young sports leaders project. Here we have helped young teenage boys and girls become qualified referees and junior coaches and support them in careers in sport. We have also recently partnered with the Ukraine Centre in Crosby. Last week we donated all remaining stock we had from our sports clothes department. This is already on its way to people in Ukraine and will support many people facing unbelievable hardship. If you would like to make any quality clothing donations you can drop off any bags at our sports shop through the week, or on match day and we will pass these on to the centre.
The New Community Hub
The new Community Hub will hopefully be ready for the end of September. The Hub will make a great community centre and will support the local people of Crosby and Sefton. It will allow MITC to offer more sessions and deliver new and exciting programmes working with people from 5 years of age to 95 and over! The aim is to have a centre that is intergenerational, supporting young, old and disabilities. The Hub will be open through the week and will be a significant addition to the work MITC is doing in your community. Any donations or sponsorship are welcome. What we offer at Marine In The Community!
We currently offer many opportunities for girls and boys to participate in football. Our Mini Mariners football coaching programme which runs throughout the week. Tuesday and Wednesday 5pm to 6pm is open to juniors, 5 to 12 years of age.
Our walking football (men & women) is going from strength to strength and every Monday under the eye of our lead coach Mike Walker and John Walker. The men’s team runs from 7pm to 8pm, followed by our women’s team 8pm to 9pm. Both teams are now getting a great turn out each week and is proving to be a fantastic way to continue to play football, make new friends and stay healthy. I would strongly recommend you give it a try. I think you will be pleasantly surprised how enjoyable it really is.
Community Café continues to be a huge success and is open every Friday 12pm to 2pm. We open again after a short summer break 6th September. The café welcomes over 80 members each week for lunch, a friendly chat, and some great entertainment. If you would like to come along, then feel free or maybe pass our open invitation to a friend or family member who might enjoy the friendship, a great lunch and entertainment. The weekends do start at Marine!
Heritage walking group is gaining lots of new people and is traveling across Merseyside and the surrounding area. We go on walks every other Thursday.
We also offer Zumba and Yoga every Friday morning 10am to 11:30am.
